How amazing that our first stay in a "commercial accommodation" in Canada should be so relaxed, unassuming, homey...The whole feel of the lodge and surroundings are at one with nature. Just to sit and gaze at the scenery inspires well being. The homey atmosphere, encouraging guests to join in conversations so it is like being entertained at a friend's house - good food, good conversation, good views - and all so relaxed. Even the smoke from the Washington fire contributed - a misty haze on the mountain tops and a full orange moon. The lake looks like glass this morning with the fire pit and the seats close by. For the first time ever (yes, honestly) we've toasted marshmallows. It is hard work running a successful B&B (with dinner), but Wayne and Heather make it look easy. Thanks both for a memorable stop over.

My sister-in-laws are sound asleep in the superbly comfortable beds, complete with Egyptian cotton sheets. I am sitting on the leather loveseat, curled up in the corner watching the mist moving slowly over the tops of the trees. I want to write something memorable to put into words how I feel about my stay at Griffin Lake Lodge, but I am uncharacteristically lost for words! Instead I am sitting here watching the lake and its sheer stillness. I am remembering Heather's welcoming smile and Wayne's firm handshake and the warmth of last nights camp fire and the laughter we shared with our lodging buddies. I am thinking of how amazing our breakfast is going to taste this morning and as I take in the wonderment of this place, I am asking myself, "Why am I going home?" Thank you.

Thank you Heather and Wayne for truly relaxing stay on your beautiful property. After a week ranching, we thought the boys (Nick 12 and George 14) would be difficult to please - but they have had a ball! - canoeing and kayaking on the lake, swimming, fishing, and roasting marshmallows on the campfire at night. Our 3 hour hike at Mount Revelstoke was the icing on the cake. Thank you also for the tasty meals - a real hit! Well done on creating such a unique B&B and Heather, many congratulations on your obvious flair for interior design. We will certainly pass on your details to anyone we know coming this way.

I would like to thank you for your real smile and generous hospitality. I have been visiting 5 Star hotels in a lot of world countries. I found this experience "unique". We visited this place just to sleep one night on our way to Banff, but, we realized that this visit is the best part of our journey. It is really an unforgettable experience.

Our stay in "The English Room" was a wonderful experience that we will take back to share with family and friends. The view of the lake and mountains was beautiful! It is evident that you have put extra effort into making everything inviting and making the room comfortable - the beds were cozy, the decor is amazing, the sitting area next to the window was perfect....The food was excellent - what wonderful cooking - the best we have had in Canada! The trains running through were a special treat as Joe loves trains and stops to watch them every chance he gets. The campfire was warming and fun, full of laughter and conversation at the end of a day of hiking. This has been a very "unique" experience for us - our very first b&b. We will definitely be doing it more. I know that it will be hard to find other b&b's with the perfect setting, friendly welcome, good food and exquisite decor that you have here. Thanks!

As always we received a warm welcome and after a 5 hour car journey, it was perfect. I cannot emphasize how welcoming and relaxing it is to be here. With mountains, a lake and a river as a backdrop to such hospitality, it is no wonder that we have returned and are already planning a winter visit. Sunshine, storms, bald eagles, campfires, canoes and endless cups of coffee ensure that we have the perfect break. How you (Heather and Wayne) manage to stay so enthusiastic about what is in your own back garden is a testament to what you have achieved. You should be justly proud of everything that is here and all of the kind and accurate words written in this journal. Many thanks!

Sometimes life surprises us with amazing, unexpected things - these past few days have been such an experience! We certainly believed staying here would be nice before we came, but everything was so wonderful, it is hard to put into words what a special part of the trip this was. We usually seem to hurry through everything that we do and get everything done, but here we were able to truly relax and enjoy everything. You made us feel tremendously welcome, and we appreciate that so much with the kids. You have a beautiful lodge and we will do everything possible to make it back here one day! Thank you for making this time so incredibly special. Best wishes.

Where to start....hhmm..I'm sure other guests have been in the same quandary, but let's try and sum up the quality of service extended to Kelly and I by yourselves.
It all started when I called from Sydney, Australia with a request for accommodation for 2 nights from
30th April. Kelly and myself had browsed the Web for accommodation in the Revelstoke area and had narrowed it down to two possibilities; Griffin Lake being one of them. The location, scenery and activities are what drew us to it initially, but when I called and asked if Heather could fulfill our request (even though the B&B did not officially open until 1st May), I knew we had made the right choice. Nothing was too much trouble - "sure we can accommodate you a night early". Even extending to a third night just prior to our arrival was no problem. We were offered the Griffin Room - ground floor and appeared beautifully appointed from what we saw on your website.
When we arrived, Heather was there to greet us. A quick tour through the B&B reaffirmed our decision to choose Griffin Lake. Our room was as beautiful as the website promised, as was the rest of the house, resulting no doubt from Heather's natural decorating flair. The amenities, the service, the friendly hospitality all added up to make the perfect 'get-away-from-it-all' holiday. Then there was the location itself - the lake was resplendent in it's innate beauty with canoes available to fully appreciate it. Whilst Kelly, being a 'local' from Vancouver who had been through the Rockies before, was impressed, I, being a simple "tourist", was awestruck. Heather's cooking !! - we only needed to sample breakfast on our first morning to know that we were going to be spoiled.
The guest lounge room was inviting and warm, made even more so by the slow-burning wood stove. We thoroughly enjoyed your company that Saturday evening and found the history of the B & B fascinating. Wayne's efforts in renovating the old furniture mill were astounding. Nine months of hard labour is testament to the commitment you both have to this 'paradise' at the gateway to the Rockies.
In closing, we wish to express our sincere thanks for a wonderful weekend and look forward to returning again in the not too distant future.

I think that of any stop on our trip, Griffin Lake Mountain Lodge was the most difficult to leave. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay with you, and will always have such wonderful memories--the fabulous food, the breathtaking scenery, the wonderfully comfortable beds, the stimulating company, and you, our outstanding hosts. It truly was my idea of heaven for those two days, and I only regret we couldn't stay longer. But you can bet that at least I will be back for a much longer stay in the future--whether Tom comes with me or not! Take care and have a very successful summer season.

What a find! We drove by on Hwy #1 and turned around to check out this place. What a treasure we discovered. It is so beautiful here - it makes us want to stay forever. We loved your ingenuity in decorating - very fascinating! And we appreciate the cleanliness and the scrumptious food. You made us feel so welcome. Thanks!

This place is amazing!!! And the two of you are great!!! You made us feel so comfortable the whole time. Thank you for taking time out of your busy days to help us find trails for the dirt bikes. The food was great, the campfires very relaxing, but the fishing stressful. Many thanks for the best hospitality. It sure takes a couple of special people to make complete strangers feel right at home! We can't forget about Storm. What an amazing dog!! We will definitely be back. "The Honeymooners".

Thank you for the wonderful stay, the cheerful company and the sing along around the campfire. We can't forget to mention the lightning strikes on the side of the mountain, the forest fire and the subsequent air show!!! You guys sure don't skimp on entertainment! Thanks for everything.

Definitely the highlight of our trip! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay - the beauty of the surroundings, the comfort of our room and the lodge, the delicious meals, the campfires by the lake, and of course, the hospitality of you both. Special treats were our "international moments" - at the campfire with Norwegians, Germans and Canadians - at breakfast with Germans and Japanese - What fun! Second treat - a wonderful storm....complete with thunder and lightning. Many thanks Heather and Wayne, for a delightful vacation from our vacation.

In Louisiana, "lagniappe" means an unexpected, positive surprise. This lodge is truly a "lagniappe" experience. The exquisite detailing of the wood, the beautiful scenery, the scrumptious meals, down to the patter of raindrops on the awnings create strong powerful memories for us. It has been so much fun getting to know you and the other guests. It is evident that much love and care have gone into building your lovely home. Thanks for the wonderful time and the best of luck to the two of you.

How glad we were that you had a room for us, in spite of the mix up we made of our reservations! Words cannot describe what we think of your lodge, but "magical" comes to mind. Congratulations on achieving such a monumental task so successfully. Thank you Heather and Wayne, for making us so welcome and for the delicious meals. We shall never forget our stay here.

From the delicious chocolate chip cookies to catching a "monster" Rainbow Trout, to playing fetch with Storm....this is truly a special place, run by special people. Thank you so much. We will be dreaming of Griffin Lake for months to come when we get back to Texas. Until we return....

OK, so where does a guest start? Maybe with the view...that's it; the beautiful mountains back dropping the rugged Canadian wilderness. Or how about the exquisite and creative decorating of the lodge that used to be a "pile of rubble". Perhaps it is the awesome home cooking that my waistline will never forgive you for! I won't even the mention the fantastic sleeps in the wonderfully comfy beds; the warm ambiance that coaxes the most varied and interesting conversation from all your guests; or the genuine warmth and congeniality that you shared that made us feel so pampered and at home. Uh- uh- none of that--it's the dog-that's right, it's Storm! We just love your dog!! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thanks for all. God willing, we'll be back.

What a lovely "oasis" of tranquility to find late one night. We were made very welcome. If you get a chance, get up before the sun is over the mountains (to the left as you look at the lake) and sit and.......chill out!

What a beautiful place! We stumbled across this place due to a down pour and not wanting to spend a night under wet canvas; the most fortunate discovery of our trip. The environment and atmosphere is perfect and the attention to detail, excellent! I am going to come back and get Heather to teach me how to cook. Wow! Both of you and your lodge are an inspiration. It is not a question of will we return, just a question of when. Thank you.

Dear Heather and Wayne...First of all, many thanks for those relaxing days right in the middle of our holidays. After our " take the Rockies in a few days" trip, we enjoyed the time in your fantastic lodge, with canoes, hiking (blisters..Micheal), trains, spawning salmon and just relaxing and doing nothing. Breakfast and dinner were especially delightful. You should get some stars for your accommodation. If we take another trip to Canada, we will be back.

"Five Stars" are not enough for the Griffin Lake Lodge and its hosts, Heather and Wayne. After viewing the picture album that documents the recreation of a building that had a dirt floor to what it is today, their accomplishment becomes truly amazing. Wayne's design and craftsmanship epitomizes Frank Lloyd Wright's ideal of a well designed building: " form follows function". And Heather, your hospitality and culinary skills are of the highest standards - Martha Stewart, eat your heart out!! Congratulations on a job well done and thank you both for a wonderful experience. Regards and best wishes.

The lodge is like a spectacular jewel in a most unbelievable setting. Having only seen such beauty in pictures and paintings, I doubted that it really existed un-retouched. This visit's memories will be cherished for a lifetime. Thank you so much for such an experience.

Wow! What can we say - this is paradise. Your photos show how hard you both have worked to make it that way. This was the "perfect" spot for our 5th wedding anniversary. Your hospitality is fabulous! .........There is obviously a word or a phrase that describes the ambiance of the lodge itself, the majesty of the mountains and the serenity of the lake. I am not a linguist, but I don't think that German phrases can accommodate the feelings. The French have a phrase for it, I just don't know what it is. Marmots and dear have a single sound that covers it. I don't know that either; but I think it must sound something like "home". Thanks.

A lovely experience for our first stay. We felt pampered and welcome and wonderfully fed. Thank you recommending the hikes on Mount Revelstoke; it was the most beautiful and perfect hike we ever had. The sleeps were great and when we get home, I'm going to email you for that decadent chocolate cookie recipe! Thank you so much for a wonderful start to our vacation. You have set a high standard. I also wanted to mention the lovely dinner that lasted until 11:00 pm with many laughs. Best wishes.

We all enjoyed our peaceful stay. Oh yea, great company too. Great hospitality and excellent food! The boys actually survived without TV and replaced it with fishing.
